A VMWare virtual machine

RoboDeb is a virtual machine that makes exploring professional robotics easy. It provides a complete Player/Stage environment, preinstalled on a downloadable and double-clickable virtual machine, ready-to-run.

To make use of the RoboDeb virtual machine, you must first download and install VMWare Player. You can install VMWare Player under Windows or Linux; currently, Mac users (ourselves included!) are out of luck. Once you have VMware installed, you can download our virtual machine (which runs Debian Linux) and get started programming your virtual Pioneer3 in either occam-pi (our preference), C, C++, or Java.

In our experience, this is far easier than compiling and installing Player/Stage yourself, especially if you're a Windows user.

Downloading the VM

The most recent version of the VM is currently available from the VMWare website. Our most recent version is RoboDeb 007.

The compressed virtual machine is 314MB; VMWare have provided BitTorrent links for the VM. You can also download the VM directly. Remember, it's big!

Documentation

Once you've grabbed the virtual machine, you'll want to read up on how to develop occam-pi programs for the Player/Stage API.
